Week 6-3/31 Google+

Members: Ting, Winnie, Daphne, Sherry, Joy
Q1. Why I am able to be in the community before in your circles?

Ting: You don't have to be in my circles and I can just add you in the community once I have your account.
Tell me the differences between in your circles and in your community. tKs
Daphne: In my opinion, “circle” includes all the friends you have. As for “communities”, it’s more specific in some groups that you can choose to set as private or public.

Q2. I want to hangout with your community instead of individuals, how can I do?
Daphne:
First, you have two ways to go.
A member of us (for example, it's Ting.) could sent you an invitation to start a communication, or you may first sent it to anyone of us.
Next, please focus on the icon similar to a “camera” on the top of our communication window.
There's a image next to video camera with a plus, we just click it and we can “add friends” and create a new hangout.
P.S Also, more about “add friends”: you need to have our gmail or accounts in order to find us so that you can add us into the hangouts.

Q3 How do you define your circles? I am asking how do you categorize your friends in different circles?
Ting: I categorize my friends into several different group. Family, friends, and sisters. There are always something that you want to hide, and something you are interested in but not your friends. So I can separate them into different circles and they can see what I want them to see.

Q4. How does Google + ( all social networking sites) affect your interpersonal relationships?
Ting: Sometimes you may add some friends that you don’t know in your real life, and you should be aware of that.
Daphne: And, such terms like “hangouts” or “Google docs” are unfamiliar to me before, but once I start using this kind of social networking sites, I became used to and understand a bit more about it. That also offers me more ways to communicate with my friends online. By the way, this ability of co-editing is so cool.
Joy:We can make more friends .It is convenient to share our ideas to friends whenever or wherever we are. So,if a friend is far away from us,we also can use social networking sites to keep our friendship.
Winnie: This kind of social networking website gives me a more efficient way to communicate
with my friends. I can chat with others without being face to face to them. That really save our time.
Sherry:We can connect  our friend more conveniently. And share our daily life in the  social networking sites,so that we can know our recent information to each other.

Q5. How does social networking sites influence your brain?
Daphne: The enormous information on social networking sites, to me, is stimulus. I mean the text, the picture, the video...etc.
Ting: we can accept more informations about what’s the hit nowadays. And we can know our friends life instantly.
Joy:So much information crash into my brain. But I cannot distinguish whether it good or bad.
Winnie: we can learn lots of information on the social networking sites but can’t distinguish if it is correct or not.

Q6. Discuss the positive and negative effects of social networking sites.
(remember to find examples to support your points of view.)
  • Positives :
Daphne: We thus make ourselves always keep track on the latest news. For example, by watching TED talk or CNN news online, we’re less likely to be isolated from what’s going on in the world right now. Or by following some celebrities, we would know the trends in that field.
Winnie : more efficient to communicate with friends (for example: you can use line, facetime,   web phone or send an email )
Can share the latest  informations and news (if you become friends on the social networking website with others or if you follow some official website, you can see their activity on the website. For example, facebook, instagram, twitter or google+)
Joy:expand our horizon (someone will share something you had never know)
It is convenient to  connect with your friends.(Just use your smart phone or computer)
It is really cheap.(Most of social networking  sites are for free)
Ting: you can connect your friends in more ways and that would be more convenient. (example: if you want to talk to your friends but he/she doesn’t answer on Line. You may try another such as, facebook, twitter, skype.)
Sherry:We can receive the latest social news(There are many latest news post on the social networking  sites ,and these posts are spread quickly. So that we can get these news quickly by the social networking  sites.  )

  • Negatives :
Sherry:No personal privacy(because our basic personal information
can be searched by social networking sites.  )
Daphne: On the other hand, it’s possible that we might get lost on these social networking sites. Not only will we get addicted to it, but also will we be trapped in the danger due to its unsafety.
Ting: More and more business work is done on the internet. But when your work online, you might not concentrate on your workload. Maybe that would decrease your productivity while checking your Facebook.
Winnie: cyber-bullying (if you become known, there might be someone who hates you. People dislike you can give you some bad words without giving their name. And that’s possible to gather some followers.  For example, a Taiwanese celebrity suffered from online verbal attack and end up with suicide.)
Joy:It is not good for our eyes.(We need use social networking sites on computer or smart phone. As we all know, they have radiation. We should not use them for  a long time.)
There are many wrong information misleading you.(For example, long long ago, one of my friends shared an article that

Winnie: colorful images can attract readers vision. The

Q8. Discuss “the real world” vs. “ the virtual world”
Daphne: Take making friends for example. Nowadays, many websites for making online friends have appeared, we may chat pleasantly on Fb or Skype, sharing our feelings to the one who you don’t even know. However, when it comes to meeting in the real world, it’s a totally different thing. It’s about our safety.

Sherry:In the virtual world,we can hide our identity. This makes some people commit a crime.

Week 3-3/10-Team discussion- A summary of the lessons in Week 1 and 2

It gradually became our contents in conversation. And it also made our life more convenient and can chat even from faraway. What’s more, we compared the difference of chatting online and face to face. Through the internet, we can get some information about others.

Week2 Internet English
Some special term like "LOL" or “BTW” came our as Internet English appears. We are talking about the differences of face to face and internet English and I think face to face is hard to me because I will embarrassed to stranger. We have learned the history of internet English, too.

Summary
It’s true that Internet English really have an effect on our lives. We definitely cannot live without it.

Week 4-3/17- Summary of "Digital natives vs digital immigrants"

Digital natives and digital immigrants have great differences in many ways. Not only are their ways of learning, but also their knowledge and attitudes toward technology. To start with, they are essentially different according to their definition, which lies in the time they were born. And, the key year is in 1980 because of the coming of the Usenet and the bulletin board system. Second, they also have different learning styles. For example, digital natives use lots of resources on the internet and most digital immigrants just use paper resources or old strategies. That’s also why digital natives are always faster than digital immigrants when it comes to making use of the information on Net. Though some clips about difference between digital natives or immigrants have been shared during class, and it really seemed that there is a deep generation gap between them; however, they can still teach each other. After all, they are both live in this twenty-first century, the generation of Internet.

Week 5-3/24 Blogging

Team members: Daphne, Winnie, Ting, Sherry, Joy

What is a blog? (history)
Blog is an internet platform that you can share experience with others, and contact with others.
It is a publicly accessible personal journal for an individual which reflects the personality of the author.
HISTORY:Blog is from “Weblog”.The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. The short form, "blog", was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com
in April or May 1999. Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams at Pyra Labs used "blog" as both a noun and verb ("to blog", meaning "to edit one's weblog or to post to one's weblog") and devised the term "blogger" in connection with Pyra Labs' Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.

Who is/are bloggers?
Those who keep update their blogs and use it as a earning money tool.
The author of a blog .

Types of blogs
There are many types of blogs, and they all focus on different things. For example, food, diary, travel.
1.Personal blogs
2.Collaborative blogs or group blogs
3.Microblogging
4.Corporate and organizational blogs
5.Aggregated blogs
6.By genre
7.By media type
8.By device
9.Reverse blog

Legal and social effects/concerns/consequences/impacts/influences (both positive and negative ones)
Positive:
You can know more things on blogs. For example, if you want to go to a restaurant you didn’t know before, you can search online, and there will be some bloggers share their experiences and thoughts about the service and food. And that could be your reference.
Negative:
There may also be some bullying. If you don’t like someone, you may just blame and despise the one you don’t like online. Because you are an anonymity online, when you take it out, you may hurt that one and not to notice that you make a traumatic experience in their mind. Sometimes this is the cause of social cases.

Week 3-3/10-Discussion on " Text-speak on Tests"

Members: Daphne, Ting, Winnie, Joy, Sherry
Comments:
1)
Daphne 10411221
When I read the different version, I was confused by the text one. I think that will be terrible in the future. The Net really make our lives faster and more convenient, however, the text is just for laziness and fun merely. We shouldn’t let it replace the general English, not to mention the use in tests. That’s too ridiculous. I mean, it’s so formal that we should view it with serious attitude.
2)
Ting
I think it's hard to understand if we are not familiar with those text.
But once you know that, that would be more convenient, especially during tests.
3)
Joy
I think students cannot use 'text speak' on tests.
In test, we should use formal language, students should not use such letters or signs to represent words for easiness. Maybe it will damage the English language. It is a serious thing.
And it is not easy to know the meaning of 'text speak'.
4)
Winnie
I think we should not use “ text speak “ on test because that may cause many problems. For example, if some teacher can’t understand those text then correcting papers may became slower and more difficult.
5)
Sherry
If use text-speak in the text.

It is not clearly to respond the answer.

Week 2-3/3 -Team based- Sharing personal experiences

Team members: Daphne, Winnie, Peggy

Daphne: In my opinion, I prefer face to face than chatting on Net, especially when chatting in groups for discussing important issues.
I have once experienced chatting in groups for something important, yet it turned out a mess. We were often off-topic, and somehow no efficiency at all.

Winnie: I think chatting with someone on the internet can't really see the person's emotion. For example. If someone give a happy emoji but actually he or she isn't that much happy.
That may cause some misunderstand between each other.

Peggy: I think we can share our emotion instantly by face to face. However, for the people we just know, chatting on net is the better way to get familiar with each other. Because it's less embarrassed.

Team members: Ting, Nina, Joy, Sherry

Ting’s experience:
When I talk directly to others, they can see my facial experience so I just talk.
But when I chat online, I would type “haha” almost every sentences.

Nina’s experience:
Ok, I have to admit that sometimes I say I gotta go because some personal thing on the Net, but actually, I don't.
I heard a funny thing from others. Share to you. My friend have to write something on the train. Then he ask a girl who sit next to him for a pen. Then the girl said ' I won't give you my number. So sometimes I think face to face may have some misunderstanding.

Joy’s experience:
Once I chatted with an English speaker face to face and he talked so fast, I cannot get what he said and I felt embarrassed.

Sherry’s experience:
There’s a person added my facebook, and we didn’t know each other before. But we chat together very well.

Week 2-3/3-Team comment - a script

Team members: Ting, Nina, Joy, Sherry

Sherry:we can talk about the internet how to change our life
Nina: other team mention email
Ting: but we should comment on other teams conclusion
Joy:so...
Nina: so the general idea that every team agree is the speed, and what else?
Sherry: in the video some people don't go out of the door and be every sick
Ting: and talking about the evolution
Joy:people is much lazier
Nina: internet terminology
Ting: and what else?
Ting: what is terminology?
術語
Ting: hahah
Ting: so what's our conclusion?
Ting: who will upload this time?
Nina: internet english make our life more convenient?
Nina: ok, i upload
Ting: then just the same us we did as we did
Nina :uh...
Ting: the internet influence our life, the way we communicate

Team member:
Daphne  Winnie  Peggy

Daphne: I think the term is not only “Btw” or “lol”, but also special term like “firewall” appears as the Internet English grows.
Peggy: We can communicate immediately
Winnie: I think the conversation on the internet can only speed up when we were far away to each other
Daphne: As if we were neighbor to each other ><
Peggy: Then we start to use English Internet slang because of the busy life
Daphne: It’s excited that the Net is still on its evolution track
Winnie: yet people can offend other without telling their name

Peggy: LMAO XDDD

Week 2-3/3 Team discussion - History of Internet English

Team members:
杜若婷 藍珮之 邱妍華

We consider the purpose of our communication is that "the language changes in our life."and e-mail and gradually, the special term for Internet are combined in our life, too we choose some example lmao = laugh my ass off TTYL means talk to you later This Internet terms and tools nowadays are integral to our life.
